RENTAL GUIDE
How to compare rental costs in Gurugram
Compare the rent basis first, then separate recurring costs from the money needed at move-in. A lower advertised rent does not tell you the full monthly cost when other charges are missing.

Is the advertised rent for a property, room or bed?
An entire-home rent applies to the whole property. A private-room rent applies to one room, while a shared-room listing may quote a price per bed. Compare listings on the same basis. Ask how shared bills are divided and how many people are included before calculating a personal budget.
HouseHunt labels the rent basis supplied for a listing. The monthly rent filter follows that basis; a whole-property price and a room price should not be compared as if they describe the same space.
Which costs belong in the monthly total?
Start with monthly rent and add recurring maintenance or other fixed monthly charges only when their amounts and billing periods are known. Electricity, water, internet and parking may be separate. Ask whether they are included, fixed or usage-based.
For example, ₹20,000 rent plus ₹2,000 monthly maintenance gives a known subtotal of ₹22,000. If electricity and water are extra and unknown, ₹22,000 is not the final monthly total. This is an illustration, not a Gurugram market-price estimate.
What should you ask about the move-in amount?
- The deposit amount, who holds it, and the written refund and deduction terms.
- Any brokerage or other one-time fee, when it is payable, and what it covers.
- Advance rent and the billing period it pays for.
- Which charges are refundable, recurring or one-time.
What does a missing charge mean on HouseHunt?
A missing maintenance, deposit or brokerage amount means it was not supplied. It does not mean the charge is zero. Use the listing’s contact option to confirm missing amounts with the poster and keep the agreed terms in writing.
HouseHunt shows the details supplied by owners, agents, flatmates or authorized sources. A listing and its known-cost subtotal are a starting point for your questions, not a promise about your final bill.
